Your School Textbook

One of the most persuasive yet poorly understood infuences on American society is the High School Textbook. Thanks to a virtual monopoly of public education, textbook publishers have a wide ranging power to shape our young people. In reality however, they do more to mislead and misinform than almost any other print media. Some of our most basic beliefs, including our conceptions of ourselves as Americans, are shaped and distorted by our school textbooks.
The reason for this is obvious.
Textbook publishers want to sell textbooks to as many schools as possible. The key to doing this is marketing. Whick means Bright shiny covers , lots of pictures and an eye-catching layout.
Schools go to great lengths to avoid buying books that have dangerous ideas. In some states, the government has made a rule that textbooks must be "approved" before students can read them. Controversial ideas must be cut out to avoid offending feelings of not only teachers, but parents of the students in an effort to " uphold community values" They write ideas and concepts as fact so that the subconciously following herd of students will take them as just that, fact, and it will help shape their perception on reality, and what they do later in life.
If you want to know more on what facts have been changed in your school text book, look it up. It isnt hard to find. The things you see will astonish you.
