Greedy Republican Fucks

There are some things that I hear on television or see in the newspaper that make me want to throw my television out the window, crumple my newspaper and rip it up, and never look at it again. This is one of them.
Today in Washington, the senate turned down a proposal by the Democrats to raise the minimum wage from $5.15 an hour to $5.85, raising for the next two years in increments to a total of $7.25. Democrats said that inflation of the past ten years has caused the minumum wage to erode by 20%. Prices around us are raising for things that we directly need, shelter, transportation, food, gas, not to mention many others. Yet the rate we as Americans get paid to work isnt. How are we expected to survive in a society specifically designed for us to fail? How can we lift ourselves out of a hole if working actually puts us in one?
First let me explain something. The average man working in the United States for minimum wage makes 5.15 an hour. Thats $10,700.00 a year, which is a whopping $6,000.00 below poverty level. Why should a man working 5 days and 40 hours a week to support himself and his family, be subjected to this? Why shouldnt our minumum wage reward those who actually work? I say, "Take them out of poverty, dont keep them there."
This is why many Americans choose not to work at all. In thier opinion, why should they have to work at thier local Taco Bell or mow lawns just to stay broke? A person in this country cannot live on a measly 10,700.00 a year in gross income, (this is before taxes people) it just isnt right. It just isnt.
The republican vote against this proposal caused it to be denied. Whose wages, might I add, have ballooned nearly $30,000.00 in the last ten years. These Republicans, have increased thier income dramatically since they have even looked at this issue, so why would they bother now? After all, it doesnt affect them. It affects us. The little people.
They say that raising the minimum wage would end up hurting us in the end, because it would cause many people to lose thier jobs. Probably because of the greedy, already extremely wealthy business owners that that dont think that an employee underneath them is "worth" that extra $2.10 an hour.
That $2.10 an hour doesnt seem like much, but in the end it is. Think about it this way, That 2.10 is an extra $84.00 a week on a paycheck, an extra $336.00 a month for rent or bills, and finally an extra $4,032.00 a year. What could you do with $4,032.00?
Only an extra $1.00 an hour for a year could help some us pay eight months of groceries, car payments, cell phone bills, or even rent. But they couldnt spare even that could they? Nope. Not even that.
So how much are we really "worth"? Well, technically...five dollars and fifteen cents. Is that how much you think you are worth, is that how much your mother, your father, or your children are worth? Well thats how much the government says we are. Take that and chew on it.
